Congratulations to former Wildcat Offensive Linemen David Kraft who was selected to the First Team Capital One Academic All-American.
Kraft, who owns a 3.66 grade point average in psychology, started all 11 games this season for McPherson at either center or left tackle to earn his third consecutive All-KCAC first team selection. Kraft was named a NAIA honorable mention All-American following his junior season and anchored an offensive line that played a key role in the Bulldogs first conference championship since 1952 and second consecutive trip to the NAIA playoffs. To be eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his current institution and be nominated by his sports information director.

A good article to read: http://www.big12sports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=10410&ATCLID=205268555#.TmlnlcI5qYk.email
Sportsmanship Still Matters Courtesy: Wendell Barnhouse, Big 12 Insider Release: 09/08/2011
In this time when it appears college sports as we know it unraveling and will morph into something we can't recognize, stories like this should remind us that acting in the greater good is better than acting for the greater greed.
This is from the San Antonio Express-News. Early in Sunday night's SMU-Texas A&M game at an electric Kyle Field, the Aggies' Trent Hunter returned an interception. When he was tackled by SMU's Blake McJunkin and Kelly Turner. Hunter lost his helmet and there was a chance another player could pile on and inadvertently cause a serious injury.
McJunkin, though, reached out his muscular left arm and shielded Hunter's head.
It was just a natural reaction, McJunkin told the Express News. When he lost his helmet, it was just the right thing to do, no matter the color of his jersey. I've seen people get hurt in that situation.
My helmet popped off, and I really didn't know what had happened, Hunter said. When I was watching the video later, I saw that (McJunkin) was protecting my head from any other hit. I really appreciate that gesture - it's what sportsmanship is all about.
A number of A&M fans who saw McJunkin's gesture at the game or on television contacted the SMU player through his Facebook page to express their gratitude at his sportsmanship.
People just said, 'Hey, man, thanks for protecting our player,' McJunkin said. That was humbling, to get those messages.

A few announcements: 1. The 2011 season promo video has been posted.
2. There's a new feature in the Alumni section. Each game score on the Alumni Pages is now a link to a PDF that contains the newspaper article for that game. There are a couple years in the 60's and a few other years I'm still trying to get the articles in digital format and I will link them up when I get the files. Some of the older years (20's, 30's, etc..) did not have articles in the paper for every game. Also, some years the quality of print is sketchy, but most years it's not bad.
3. There is a new "MHS Football Trivia" feature on the right bar. All the questions will be specific to Mulvane, leagues, or events that affected Mulvane. I'll change the questions out once a week or so.
4. I will be doing Senior collages this year, however on a by-order basis. If you are interested in a senior sports collage please email me and I can send you pricing.

The kansas Football Coaches Association also held there selection process yesterday in Wichita. This is an extremely hard team to make as only 1st team selections are made and it is chosen by the coaches after watching film on all kids nominated. You can make an all star team of those not chosen and probably win class 4A. Both Zach and Gus were named 1st Team All State by the 4A coaches.

Thanks to the Grazers and the fund raising over the past few years by many people the football team was able to order a Ground Battle chute for next season. It arrived late in the week of our camp and is a state of the art piece of practice equipment. We are very excited about using this chute this fall.
Check out the pictures in the photo gallery.
Thanks again Grazers and for all who helped fund raise over the past few years. This is something we would not have been able to obtain if not for the hard work of many people. Its always great to be a Mulvane Wildcat.

I have had a number of our athletes ask if they could extend the Hog Raffle fund raiser to raise money for our team camp another week. We have decided to extend the date of the raffle to April 30th which is a week from Friday. Please have your son "earn" his team camp as it means a lot more to them when they had to raise money to attend.

I've finished most of the SR posters for this year and most of the kids should have received them at school. If you're interested in getting them transferred to a nice wood frame, L'Image in the Town East Mall does a fantastic job for very reasonable price. For the rest of this month they are offering 25% off as well, so you can get your poster permanently on a wood frame for around $20-$25. L'Image (Town East Mall) http://laminpro.com/ (316) 618-4839

At the end of February Pitt State had a work out to identify student athletes they deemed capable of playing at the Division II level. AJ, who was the smallest person at the workout, made a very impressive showing and recieved his great news over spring break. Pitt State is getting one top quality young man. Coach Sayahnejad was named the new Head Football Coach at Wichita North today. We are both excited for Coach S as he takes on his new role and saddened to see him go.
Coach S has had a big impact on our football team as well as our school over the past 4 years. I have always been impressed with his passion for football but even more so with his relationships with all kids at MHS.
He has helped make Mulvane football what it is and has contributed to our success in many ways. I want to personally thank Coach S for being a great friend to us here and for all your hard work in our program. We will miss you next fall.
We wish Coach S nothing but the best, he has spoken to me many times over the years on his desire to be a head coach, he is ready and will do a great job. North High would be hard pressed to find a better man.
Remember Coach S, once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat. God Bless you and Jenn in your new position.

Camp Dates
Parents, below is a tentative schedule for our summer camps this year. KSHSAA has changed a few of its policies and all camps must be competed by July 18th. You can go on those late summer vacations now.
18th Annual MHS/MMS Football Camp for grades 7 12 will most likely be June 1st - 5th. We will once again go two practices a day for grades 9 -12. Times to be determined but most likely 8:00 - 10:00 AM and 6:30 - 8:30 PM. Middle school will only be in the morning.
We are planning on going to a team camp again this summer. Our plan is to attend the Hutchinson Community College Team Camp this summer, the dates are June 7 - 9 (Sunday - Tuesday). We have heard many positive things about this camp from other coaches in the area. Hutch just started these 2 years ago.
Hutch is closer and a little cheaper then Pitt State and anywhere we can all save a dollar or two is important to all of us.
Again, these are all tentative but as you start planning summer vacations, reunions,... I wanted to give you some heads up on what our early summer schedule will be.
Summer weights will begin June 15th.
Go Cats!

| I've launched the new "College Tracker" page (on the left menu above the Alumni Link). I have most of the players that went on to play college football during Coach Fennewald's tenure, however I don't have much information prior to that. I'm missing a few seasons for some of the players as well. Please e-mail me any information (or pictures) of any players that I have missed.

2003 Mulvane graduate and former MHS Quarterback Tyler Hennes has accepted a postion of graduate assistant coach (Wide Receivers) with Division II power Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi. Ironically, the spread option Tyler ran while QB at Mulvane we learned from Delta State. Delta State has been a perennial top 10 D2 school and were National Champions back in 2000.
We want to wish the best of luck to Tyler as he begins his position with Delta State and look forward to watching his college coaching career.

Congratulations to Tyler Springer who has been selected by the media and Shrine Bowl Committe to play in the 35th Annual Shrine All Star Game next July. The All Star Game will be played in Wichita this year.
Tyler will be one of 34 players representing Western KS from 2a-6a schools. During his week of preparation he will fly to St. Louis to visit the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children. The entire experience is one Tyler will never forget and we are proud that he will be representing Mulvane next summer in this All Star Game.
His Head Coach will be Bo Black from Great Bend. Coach Black is big on the spread offense and allowing individuals in All Star Games to showcase there talent, Tyler is sure to be a big part of the game.
Other Mulvane participants have been Brad Butts (78), Mike Belew (86), Matt Demicoli (03), and David Kraft (08).
Congratulations again Tyler, we are looking forward to watching you play one more time.

Wildcat Fans:
The game next Tuesday will be at Andover starting at 8:00 pm. A few things to be aware of ahead of time.
1. Andover Central is playing at 4:00 against El Dorado. ( El Dorado is 2 miles closer to Andover that is why they play first).
2. Parking at Andover District Stadium is a huge issue especially with a game before ours. Please plan accordingly to find a place.
3. The KSHSAA has told Andover they are going to have to clear the entire stadium before allowing anyone into the stadium for the 8:00 PM game. (State needs its $$$)
4. You will not be able to go and watch the Central vs El Dorado game and stay inside. You will have to exit the stadium and purchase another ticket.
We are very excited about our opportunity to go and play a very good football team at Andover. We hope you can make plans to attend and cheer on the Cats.
Thanks for all your support.

I've added some Alumni highlight videos to the site. I have a few more years left to convert and upload, but currently I have the following years uploaded: 1996-1997 2002-2003 2004-2005 2006-2007
If you go to the Alumni Page and select a year, under the scores section, if a video exists, you will see a link for the highlight video. The videos vary in quality and the number of clips. For example, the 1996-1997 video is 6 clips, and total over 1 hour long, and the 2004 video is 6 minutes 27 seconds.
I have the following years left to convert: 1995-1996 1997-1998 1998-1999
If anyone has any other years (VHS or DVD) please let me know. Enjoy!!!

On Thursday, July 21st the MHS Football Team hit the streets of Mulvane in our annual varsity gold "Blitz" night.
Last year the football team sold 854 cards and we set a lofty goal of 1,000 cards this year. The middle school players sold 263 cards so it was up to the high school team to pull together in 2 hours to sell at least 737 cards. By the end of the night and thanks to a generous public backing Mulvane football, our high school players sold 760 cards giving us a total of 1023 cards sold.
The money raised is used to feed the football team after varsity games, jv games and frosh games throughout the entire season. Money is also provided to the Middle School "Grillers" who BBQ for the middle school football teams after there games.
The top middle school seller this year was Kyle Kilby who sold 43 cards and Evan Cifor led the high school with 44 cards.
The MHS Football players, coaches, and managers would like to thank our great community once again for your support of Mulvane Football.

"Strong Legs Run That Weak Legs May Walk" is the motto of the Shrine All Star Game played since 1974 in Kansas and other states around the country.
Over the years Mulvane has had three representatives: Brad Butts 1978, Mike Bellew 1986, and Matt Demicoli 2003. I am very honored to announce that David Kraft will become the fourth Wildcat. David has been chosen to play in the 2008 "Shrine All Star" Football Game.
David will report to the West Camp on July 18th and the game (West vs East) will be played on July 26th in Emporia. Each team is comprised of the top 34 seniors from 2A - 6A. Many of the players David will participate with will be playing Division 1 Football next year.
During his week with the West All Stars, David will fly to St. Louis and visit the Childrens Shrine Hospital, an experience he will cherish and reflect upon for years to come.
I was blessed to play in the North Dakota Shrine game in 1981. We visited the Shrine Hospital in Minneapolis and I am sure the experience will impact David the same way it has impacted my life.
Congratulations David! This is truly an outstanding honor for you to represent not only Mulvane Football but our community as well.

Jordan set a single season completion record of 92 completions. The old record was 90 set by Randy Johnson in 1998. Jordan also broke a 34 year record of Terry Richardson (Mulvane Pharmacy) for passing yards in a season, Mr. Richardson passed for 1324 yards in 1963 and Jordan threw for 1582 this season.
Tyler Springer broke a decade long record for receiving yards in a season. Tyler hauled in 764 yards this season through the air. The old record was 702 by Bryce Schumacher in 1997.

| Congratulations to Jordan Gosch who set a new single game passing record at Wamego Saturday. Jordan was 12 - 20 for 311 yards. The old record was held by Randy Johnson with 247 yards back in 1998 against Wellington. This season has been tough on the Johnson boys (Mike, Randy, and Troy) as two of their records have now been broken. Mikes single season rushing record was broken by Huldon Tharp earlier this season.

Congratulations to the MHS Football Team and their perfect 9 - 0 regular season, words cannot express how proud we are for each and every one of you. SIMPLY AWESOME!
Also, congratulations to Huldon Tharp who broke the single season rushing mark set by Mike Johnson in 1996. Huldon broke the old record of 1,452 yards in style with his 65 yard third quarter scoring run. Huldon now has 1,524 yards on the season. A BIG congratulations to the offensive line David Kraft, William Bird, Justin Leathermen, Chris Stang,Ethan Copeland, and Kyle Ericson who paved the way for Huldon. I believe Huldon owes you all a steak dinner.
We play Rose Hill next Tuesday night at 7:00, our season is just beginning.
Thanks for all your support.

There will be no pizza and a movie for the remainder of the season. Our coaching staff has parent teacher conferences this Tuesday Oct 23rd) and we host a playoff game the following Tuesday (Oct 30th).
We would like to thank all of you who attended through out this season and hope you gained an insight to Wildcat Football from the coaches perspective. It was something both Coach Swaney and I looked forward to each week.
We would also like to thank "Pizza Hut" for hosting this event each Tuesday. It was a huge success and we look forward to doing the same thing next fall.

Special thanks to all the ladies who logged in hours in the concession stand, we thought it was hot on the field but it was nothing compared to inside where the fb moms put on a wonderful dinner.

We would like to give a special thanks to Kevin Kastl and Knute Strunk who installed absolutely amazing water stations and a mister at both the high school and middle school practice fields. With the heat reaching over 100 the past few days the ability for our student athletes to cool off with the mister has been a great asset to both the high school and middle school football team members.
Just another great reason why it's great to be a Mulvane Football Wildcat.
We are having our first scrimmage this Saturday at the high school practice fields starting around 8:45 am. If you want to come out and see what we have been working on this week feel free to come out and watch as well as check out our new watering stations.
Thanks again Mulvane for supporting MHS and MMS football.

Congratulations to our entire football family grades 7 -12 who beat our goal of selling 800 Varsity Gold Cards by selling 854 cards throughout the week and in our blitz Thursday evening.
The Middle School football players had turned in 235 cards before our blitz and it was up to this year's high school team to sell 535 cards in a little over two hours. The men in the green jerseys went out, pounded the streets, and knocked on the doors to the tune of selling 619 cards during the blitz to break our goal.
The class competition was one by the junior class averaging over 15 cards sold per athlete and will receive an under armour shirt for their effort.
The entire football team grades 7 - 12 will be rewarded with a swim party at the Mulvane pool at 7:00 next Friday, August 3rd, in appreciation of their effort during our gold card sale.
The top seller for all classes was 7th grader Jake Dennison who sold 40 cards. Chance Swaney was the top high school seller selling 28 cards.
The football team and coaches would like to thank the entire Mulvane Community who supported the selling of the cards throughout the week.
Thank you very much Mulvane!

The varsity gold card blitz for the MHS football team is Thursday evening from 6:30 to 9:00 pm. The cards sell for $10.00 and all proceeds go right back to the football team in the form of team meals, post game meals, middle school grillers, and technology updates.
Our goal is to sell 800 cards from our presales of the middle school football team and our blitz.
The cards have great discounts from local businesses and are good until August of next year (2008).
Thanks again for your support of MHS football.

This page covers the first few years of Mulvane football (1916-1922) and all the years from 1950 - present. Information and pictures prior to 1950 is very scarce, so if anyone has any old yearbooks or anything prior to 1950 please let me know. The Alumni site can be reached by clicking on the link in the left menu "Football Alumni (NEW)" or by going to http://www.mhswildcatfb.com/content/alumni.cfm
